Healing IBS, SIBO, and Dysbiosis Naturally
How Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Functional Medicine, and Nutrition Work Together
Digestive issues like IBS, SIBO, and dysbiosis are becoming more common; and more frustrating to manage. If you're tired of temporary fixes and want to treat the root cause, our integrative, whole-body approach can help.
What Are IBS, SIBO, and Dysbiosis?
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common condition which can affect the stomach and intestines, often known as the gastrointestinal tract. Constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, cramps, and stomach pain are some of the symptoms. IBS is a chronic illness that requires long-term care and lifestyle changes.
Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a condition in which there is an excessive rise in the total number of bacteria in the small intestine, especially those that are uncommon in that area of the digestive system. Many times it is the case that the bacteria which are normally found only in the large intestine are now found in the small intestine. This causes many of the symptoms seen in IBS. SIBO is usually a case of an infection, whereas IBS can be caused by other factors.
Dysbiosis is an imbalance in a microbiome, or community of coexisting microorganisms. Numerous unique microbiomes—communities of bacteria that coexist with us and support us in different ways—are found within our bodies. When there is a healthy diversity of microorganisms and no one bacterium, virus, or fungus predominates, the microbiome is said to be balanced. Dysbiosis indicates a lack of balance and diversity. The way they work in your body is altered when they are out of balance.
